Victory at last
At long last, I have finally managed to find and purchase a brand spanking new Nintendo Wii. It was rather a surprise to find one, but as someone once close to me used to say, throw enough darts, and eventually you will hit a bulls-eye. That is not very different from what I did, as I had made it a point to patrol my local gaming outlets every few days
Like many people, I have found myself pleasantly surprised at this little “lightweight” in the console fight. The interface is clean, and simple to understand. Setup was simple, as it should have been. Little features like the weather channel and the news channel are nice additions, and I find myself using them far more than I expected.
Setting up the Mii’s is nearly a mini-game in itself. I created ones for every member of my household. It may only be my perception, but these virtual avatars seem to posess the personalities of each of us as well. My daughter’s Mii continuously jumps up and down in typical youthful exuberance, and my wife’s Mii just stands back with a knowing smile while my Mii does what it does best: shows off..
I have discovered forgotten joys with the Wii Sports game. It has been over a decade since I even thought about playing baseball, but after a few hours with the game I find myself wishing there was a league somewhere close to my home. Bowling is another example of this, but it has also reminded me how frustrated I get with myself when I make a bad throw.
Tennis and golf are not all that they could be, with particular regards to the golf. After many frustrating attempts at what should have been easy puts, I gave up on the golf altogether. Tennis was difficult to get my head around, and all I can devise is that perhaps I was over thinking it.
Boxing has become my new stress relief. My only complaint is that i cannot just go into a virtual gym and beat the hell out of a punching bag. The closest thing that exists is a timed training mode. Oh well..
All in all, I can see how some people are looking at the Wii with new respect as an exercise tool. After the first night, my left shoulder had the typical soreness of a muscle that had gone under-used for some time.
