Approaching the precipice…

Penny Arcade is in the final preparations to release a game. Well, I ought to say that Penny Arcade is about to release a game that is based on them, but developed by someone else. As both a programmer and game development hobbyist, these kinds of distinctions need to be made, or at least by me.

At first I was planning on dismissing it. Not that I believed it would be a bad game, it’s just that more often than not the guys at PA tend to differ with my tastes in games. It seemed only obvious that a game based on their characters would cater toward their own tastes, and leave me feeling largely unfulfilled. It should be noted that it’s entirely possible that I qualify for heathen status.

However, as the commencement day of the opening installment draws near, I find myself wondering more and more if it’s something I should take the time to check out. I’ve seen the trailers, witnessed the game play and so forth, and in those specific areas my opinions have not changed. Yet, when I gaze closer at the foundation of this game, at its story, I sense the existence of some concealed nutrition.

I’ve often stated that these guys are insanely creative. Between the weekly writing and correlating comic strips, they have provided me with diversion that goes a long way toward getting me through my mornings. I realized that a full-fledged chronicle from the cracks and fissures of their collective intellects might be just what I need to break myself out of my gaming doldrums.
