So how does that cool-aid taste?

EA CEO John Riccitiello was interviewed by MTV recently.  In that interview he defends the games that EA has put out in the last couple of years, despite the fact that most of them were crap.

Quote:

“Metacritic isn’t always the best quality measure for some licensed games, but I know a good game when I see it,” said Riccitiello. “My team and our developers know a good game when we see it. The products we’re putting out this year from Hasbro - I don’t know how they’re going to do with Metacritic, but they’re innovative, they’re different.”

Call me crazy here, but shouldnt it be whether WE think it’s a good game?  If you know a good game when you see one, so how come you havent been able to make one?  Seems to me that thousands of nay votes will win the argument when compared to your one yay vote.

As I understand Metacricic.com, they compile reviews from other sources, and if they are to be believed, these are well respected sources.  So I don’t know how you can say that Metacritic isnt always the best measure, when they don’t really do the measuring.  My understanding is that they’re aggregating a score based on the scores of everyone else.  Again its a case of multiple voices saying “crap” while you’re sticking to your “quality” story.

Gamers are not stupid.  We know jargon when we hear it.  Calling a game innovative is another way of saying “We’re trying some new shit out, but we dont know if you are gonna like it”.  The unfortunate part of the last half of that statment is somewhere along the line, you stopped caring if we did.
